Ice Dams cause damage to many homes every year. Ice Dams are common in freezing cold temperatures and when there is a heavy snowfall. The warm air in your home leaks out of the attic and melts the snow and ice. The water from the snow and ice drains down into the overhang. In freezing temperatures, when this water reaches the overhang it refreezes and this is when ice dams and/or icicles form. Ice dams can damage your roof and cause water to leak inside your home. The water leaking into your home may cause mold and mildew issues. Proper insulation and ventilation in your roof can prevent ice dams.
